Taxonomical ClassificationEukaryota; Metazoa; Chordata; Craniata; Vertebrata; Euteleostomi;Mammalia; Eutheria; Euarchontoglires; Glires; Lagomorpha; Leporidae;Oryctolagus.
Subcellular locationCell membrane; multi-pass membrane protein
Developmental StageN/A
Similarity Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 2 family.
Tissue SpecificityIsoform 1 and isoform 2 are expressed in a tissue-specific manner, with isoform 2 accounting for less than 15% of the total calcitonin receptor mRNA in osteoclasts, kidney, and brain, but comprising at least 50% of the transcripts in skeletal muscle and lung.
Post translational modificationN/A
Function This is a receptor for calcitonin. The activity of this receptor is mediated by G proteins which activate adenylyl cyclase. The calcitonin receptor is thought to couple to the heterotrimeric guanosine triphosphate-binding protein that is sensitive to cholera toxin. Isoform 2 has altered ligand binding and abolished coupling to phospholipase C.
