MethodGold substrates were cleaned using freshly prepared piranha solution (3:7 (v/v) mixture of 30% H2O2 and H2SO4) for 30 min at room temperature rinsed copiously with deionized water (Millipore Gradient) and dried under a nitrogen stream. The two types of SAMs, GSH and GSHTW 20, were prepared by immersing the cleaned gold substrates into the freshly prepared 5 mM Glutathione aqueous solution and 5 mM Glutathione aqueous solution with 0.1% (v/v) TW 20, respectively. The substrate surfaceswere left for 24 h at room temperature, in the absence of light, than were taken out from the solutions, washed with ethanol and deionized water, dried under an argon gas flow and kept in a dessicator for further characterization.
