The caspase-3-mediated cleavage activity stimulated by cryptolepine was totally inhibited by the inhibitor z-DEVD-fmk data not shown. The results suggest that cryptolepine activates caspase-3.

A treatment for 24 h with 5 mM cryptolepine suffices to induce 50% cleavage of poly ADP-ribose. polymerase in the leukemia cells and a quantitative cleavage was observed using 10 mM cryptolepine.
