| Description | Pentaglobin, also known as IgM-enriched immunoglobulin, falls under a group of polyclonal immunoglobulin preparations.[A220173] It is comprised of [immunoglobulin G (IgG)](https://www.drugbank.ca/drugs/DB00028) and immunoglobulin A (IgA) while also being enriched by immunoglobulin M (IgM).[L16353] |

| Mechanism of Action | Pentaglobin has potential antibacterial and immunomodulatory properties where, compared to immunoglobulin treatments without IgM, pentaglobin may have an increased ability to eliminate infectious pathogens . The IgM in the preparation plays a role in complement activation and neutralization of bacterial endo- and exotoxins.[L16353] Pentaglobin is used as an adjuvant in treatment of severe bacterial infections while it is also investigated against peritonitis, sepsis, and COVID-19.[A220178] |
