Also used as a transport protein that binds naturally occurring, therapeutic and toxic materials in circulation. |

Serum albumin also acts as a protein drug carrier in plasma, and transports hemin, steroids, thyroid hormones and fatty acids. It binds many other substances, such as unconjugated bilirubin, calcium ions, and other fat soluble hormones. |
