CohortSix-week-old female ICR mice were immuno- compromised by two subcutaneous injections with 300 mg/kg of body weight of cortisone acetate, given 3 days before infection and on the day of infection. The mice were anesthetized by intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection with 100 mg/kg ketamine–10 mg/kg xylazine and infected intranasally with 5 105 dor- mant spores/mouse, suspended in 20 mL of 0.2% Tween 20 in a saline solution (0.9% [wt/vol] NaCl), with 10 mL in each nostril. Endpoints for sacri ce included a drop of .15% in body weight or signs of acute distress. Mice were monitored for up to 21 days.
