CohortThe study population included consecutive adults (between 18 and 60 years of age) who presented to the outpatient department and Chest Clinic of the Department of Medicine, AIIMS, New Delhi for evaluation of chronic respiratory symptoms (>3 months). A total of 69 patients were screened and 50 consecutive patients with suspected CPA, who underwent bronchoscopy and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), were enrolled in the study.

Disease Introduction MechanismChronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) refers to a conglomerate of entities having characteristic clinic-¬ radio-¬ serological features, occur- ring typically in patients with pre-¬ existing structural lung diseases. The different conditions included in this umbrella term are chronic cavitary pulmonary aspergillosis, chronic fibrosing pulmonary aspergillosis, simple aspergilloma, subacute invasive aspergillosis and Aspergillus nodule.
