Disease Introduction MechanismInvasive aspergillosis (IA) is an important disease in the context of lung transplantation, with an incidence ranging from 6% to 16%. It is estimated that 9% of all deaths after lung transplant procedures are attributed to IA. Several factors put these individuals at high risk to acquire IA. These include direct communication of the transplanted organ with air that carries Aspergillus conidia, ischemic injury of the re-spiratory tract, decrease in the mucociliary clearance, and im- paired alveolar macrophages action.
