Disease Introduction MechanismInvasive aspergillosis (IA) is the second most common IFI, behind invasive candidiasis (IC); at present, the population at risk is composed not only of neutropenic patients but also of a growing group of cases with other comorbidities, including SARS-CoV-2 infection. The signs and symptoms of IA are often nonspecific. It is challenging to distinguish colonization from infection; blood cultures are practically always negative, and it is frequently difficult or impossible to perform invasive techniques in order to obtain proper samples.
