Disease Introduction MechanismPeumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PCP) remains one of the most prevalent and serious opportunistic infections in pa- tients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection glob- ally. Recently, PCP has been reported with increasing fre- quency in non-HIV-infected patients, particularly in those with underlying immunosuppressive conditions such as hematologic malignancies, solid tumors, collagen vascular diseases, and solid- organ transplants and those receiving immunosuppressive thera- pies.
