Description | Nuclear receptor subfamily 2 group E member 1;Alternative Name- Nuclear receptor TLX;Alternative Name- Protein tailless homolog;Tll;mTll |
Organism | Mus musculus |
Txonomy | Eukaryota; Metazoa; Chordata; Craniata; Vertebrata; Euteleostomi;Mammalia; Eutheria; Euarchontoglires; Glires; Rodentia; Sciurognathi;Muroidea; Muridae; Murinae; Mus. |
Subcellular Location | Nucleus |
Developmental Stage | Expression is first detected on 8 dpc and increases until 13.5 dpc; then sharply decreases from day 13 dpc until 18 dpc. Expression is barely detected in newborn brains but increases again after birth. |
Similarity | Belongs to the nuclear hormone receptor family. NR2 subfamily. Contains 1 nuclear receptor DNA-binding domain. |
Post Translational Modification | NA |
Function | Orphan receptor that binds DNA as a monomer to hormone response elements (HRE) containing an extended core motif half- site sequence 5'-AAGGTCA-3' in which the 5' flanking nucleotides participate in determining receptor specificity. May be required to pattern anterior brain differentiation. Involved in the regulation of retinal development and essential for vision. Tlx-/-mice show central nervous system cortical defects (reduction in the size of rhinencephalic and limbic structures of the brain; including the olfactory; infrarhinal and entorhinal cortex; amygdala; and dentate gyrus) and progressive retinal and optic nerve degradation with associated blindness. |
