DescriptionGrowth hormone receptor precursor (GH receptor) (Somatotropinreceptor) [Contains- Growth hormone-binding protein (GH-bindingprotein) (GHBP) (Serum-binding protein)].
OrganismRattus norvegicus
TxonomyEukaryota; Metazoa; Chordata; Craniata; Vertebrata; Euteleostomi;Mammalia; Eutheria; Euarchontoglires; Glires; Rodentia; Sciurognathi;Muroidea; Muridae; Murinae; Rattus.
Subcellular LocationCell membrane; single-pass type I membrane protein. Isoform 2- Secreted. Note=On growth hormone bind
Developmental StageExpression is low at birth. Increases to adult levels after 5 weeks.
SimilarityBelongs to the type I cytokine receptor family. Type 1 subfamily. Contains 1 fibronectin type-III domain.
Post Translational ModificationOn GH binding; phosphorylated on tyrosine residues in the cytoplasmic domain by JAK2. Phosphorylation on either (or all of) Tyr-534; Tyr-566 and/or Tyr-627 is required for STAT5 activation. Phosphorylation on Tyr-333 would seem necessary for JAK2 activation. On ligand binding; ubiquitinated on lysine residues in the cytoplasmic domain. This ubiquitination is not sufficient for GHR internalization.
FunctionReceptor for pituitary gland growth hormone involved in regulating postnatal body growth. On ligand binding; couples to; and activates the JAK2/STAT5 pathway. The soluble form (GHBP) acts as a reservoir of growth hormone in plasma and may be a modulator/inhibitor of GH signaling.
